Happiness. We hear about it all the time. It seems to be that elusive something everyone is searching for but so many can’t find. Why is that? Could it be they’re not looking in the right place? Is it hiding under their very noses? My guess is yes. Okay, it’s not really a guess, since I’ve found the secret hiding space.
It’s in you. Not your spouse. Not your boyfriend. Not your best friend. It’s tucked right inside you. All you have to do is look for it. I know, when life has given you rotten lemons and you’re struggling to make lemonade it seems impossible to believe happiness exists anywhere in the universe, let alone inside of you. But it does.
It’s that little spark of a memory from a special event. It’s the touch of a your hand on your dog’s coat. It’s the dream you had when you were eight and discovered that monsters could be tamed by being brave puffing out your chest and screaming “Stop.” It’s a million particles of events all crammed inside your memory banks waiting to be accessed.
Sometimes you have to dig to find it. You might even have to decide to tame the beast that’s making you miserable by just telling it good bye. Yeah, I know it’s not always that easy, if it was we’d all be dancing on stars oozing happiness every day. Here’s an idea. Do some kindness for a stranger. Let your compassion help someone in need. It will help. Make up your mind to change your mood and focus on all the good in your life.
And when all else fails, there’s chocolate.
